I will continue to take on commissions but will also be focusing more attention on developing new sculptural forms and exploring new materials. When I think of the American Designer, I picture Evel Knievel or some other stunt person on a motorbike soaring over some kind of impossible stunt (cape and all). Someone who’s constantly taking risks and not afraid of trying new things. It’s that adventurous spirit I see when I look at other American designers I admire. I don’t think you can really nail down American design, and that’s what’s exciting.

These objects are a continuation of storytelling through layered materiality and form. But its ongoing appeal might lay in the dichotomy of its light appearance and heft of authenticity. In the last month of data collection, an additional mailing was added to boost the number of Vietnamese respondents. This was sent in a No. 10 envelope with a wide window and was assembled with a $1 bill visible through the envelope window. I have many influences, among them psychology and perception, light and optics, and Surrealism. For my most recent launch, the View Collection, the primary interest was light and optical perception. I’ve always been drawn to the effects of light and space on how we perceive our surroundings. Architectural ideas of views, light, and space are perhaps less commonly discussed in furniture, but are very present themes in my pieces.
